Original Mick (Rockin' Grandaddy)
I’ve had an interest in 50’s music and motorbikes all my life and when my family moved from Australia to England in the late 60’s the two interests combined.
There were still plenty of motorcycle clubs and cafes that had 50’s music on their jukeboxes and Britain was at the forefront of a 50’s revival which I embraced wholeheartedly.
I started collecting records when I was 16 and in the 70’s started a R’N’R record hop with my mate Andy. We supported just about every popular Rockin’ British band and a few of the original American artists at many various venues throughout the 70’s and 80’s but I much preferred our records only gigs.
When I returned to Australia I continued to collect records and DJ’d for a few years but didn’t encounter the same passion for original 50’s music from the Aussie fans as I had while in the UK so I “retired” from the scene.
I started searching the internet for 50’s music and a friend of mine Brian (a fellow Rockabilly Radio DJ) inspired me to dust of my records and try out for a spot on RBR, that’s how “IT”S A GROOVE” came to be.
